Simpatica was born out of our butcher counter in Citymarket Northwest in January of 2005. We quickly realized that we would need more space to accommodate our burgeoning catering company. In June of 2005, we moved into the Pine Street Studios building (828 SE Ash St.), and following in December that same year, Simpatica Dining Hall opened to host our public dinners and brunch.
After 11 amazing years, we closed our public dinners and brunch services. We decided to focus exclusively on private dining and catering, truly believing that it is what we do best.
At Simpatica, the main reason that we got into catering was to offer a unique experience. We push ourselves to offer food that rivals top restaurants in Portland. How we do that is simple-we slow it down. We cook seasonal menus. We use traditional methods like smoking, grilling, brining, pickling and preserving. We celebrate our local farms, ranches and food purveyors. Many catering companies just pay this lip service. We consider that an opportunity to show you the difference.
The owners at Simpatica are Ben Dyer, David Kreifels and Jason Owens. Between the three of us, we have about 55 years of restaurant and catering experience. We are proud of our other three restaurants Laurelhurst Market, Ate-oh-Ate and Reverend’s BBQ. We are also extremely proud of the community that our restaurants have created, as well as our children and our lovely wives.
Please know that using Simpatica is a commitment to supporting a small company doing it the right way.
Co-Owner and President
Jamie and the whole crew from Simpatica were a dream to work with from start to finish! From initial negotiations on the contract, all the way through the event, the communication was clear, constant and there was always a true sense of partnership. Jamie was invested in making sure we had a great event and raised as much money for the community as possible, and with Simpatica by our side we hit record numbers! The food was delicious, the staff polite, courteous and accommodating to our guests. I cannot say enough positive about Jamie, and everyone else at Simpatica Catering. They definitely have our business again!

The Portland Institute for Contemporary Art (PICA) has been working with Simpatica Catering since 2006. Simpatica caters PICA's biggest fundraiser of the year with a family style dinner for over 300 people, wine service, coffee, and dessert. Simpatica also caters the smaller events with appetizers and small bites. Big or small, Simpatica always does a fantastic job. The food is always fresh and delicious, the service is great, and the attention to detail is always appreciated. The staff are also particularly kind and generous with their time in helping to plan the menu and the run of show. No matter what size the budget, Simpatica will work with you to create a wonderful food experience.

Dear Simpatica Folks;
Of all of the people that helped make the 6th annual CHAIR AFFAIR (and the 5th, too) for the Community Warehouse a huge success, you are at the top. For the second year, you created an incredible meal with great service and tremendous value. You are so easy to work with, so professional and fun, too.
People are still talking about this year's dinner. Many said it was the best event meal (served to almost 200 people) they ever had. The family-style service was a big hit. And amazingly, you've done this now in two venues with no kitchen!
We hope you are onboard for 2013. We look forward to another creative, tasty evening.
All the Best,
2011 and 2012 Event Chair
